Hummus Kitchen

Review #1: Hummus Kitchen — Soft Launch

It's often said that "You never forget your first" and Hummus Kitchen was a more than suitable partner to pop my Hummus Review cherry. While Hummus Kitchen doesn't leave me lying awake at night thinking of the one that got away, its an apt start to our new journey together into the creamy world of hummus.

I admittedly came in hungry, hopeful and perhaps slightly overdressed for the first kick off review. Joining me was my fellow hummus connoisseur and friend of the blog, Shmuel, who will hopefully grace us as a guest writer going forward. Now I'll caveat with the fact that I came in having tasted the work of HK (Hummus Kitchen) before and while I'm generally wary of chains (read: Sniffim), I know they make a mean bowl of hummus. For the fools among us, the menu had all the greatest accoutrements in addition to hummus: shawarma falafel, trio platters, and yes — warm pita that felt like a pillow for my sleepy head.

We ordered a plain (everybody knows the rules) Hummus and a mushroom variety to be cutesy. This Hummus is a distant cousin of Tahini (but she makes sure to come by the house once a month to let you know she's still there). The hummus texture is quite nice and gentle to the esophagus but is rather heavy on the stomach. Taste is legit and every bite had us wanting more. Full score below but this is as my Bubbie would say fast-paced-walk-not-run Hummus. Serious stuff.

🥄 Texture

Smooth like a baby's bottom or Omer Adam's angelic voice in a sold out MSG arena. Now you fools may be thinking it's overwhipped but oh no, this puppy has just the right texture bite after bite. Texture: 4.75/5.

🎚️ Flavor

This hummus is legit folks but it's not causing me to rethink my entire existence and drop finance for Hummus                                                   but if every hummus I ate tasted close to this, I would be a                                                   very fat and well satiated man. Flavor: 4.50/5.

TLDR: Not every hummus has to ruin your life but this one will be at a minimum a tricky situationship (worth the pain).

Rating

Final Score (Restaurant Ranking): 4.63 / 10.00 — A treat of a first review. Not the single best out there, but a damn good hummus. Onward, friends. The next chickpea awaits.
